Iowa Draft Horse & Mule Association
Plowing At
Living History Farm, Des Moines, Iowa
October 2011
Another beautiful day for plowing at Living History Farm (LHF). Although we had an excellent group of willing participants, the ground was very hard and dry. Instead of a day of competition we enjoyed a day of fun and fellowship, promoting the mutipurpose draft horse in many sizes, shapes and colors.
We had the pleasure of being accompained by our temporary basement dweller, Kyeong (Kate) Mi Bang, from South Korea. Kate was staying with us while completing her actuarial internship with Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company.
Kate became very fond of Anna during her stay on our farm. Although Kate is very petite and Anna very big and strong, Kate managed to handle Anna very well.
REMEBERING BLUE RIDGE STARLIGHT BEAUTY
Beauty passed away suddenly in February, 2011. She was a very special lady.
Lynn always thought she was out to get him, but, in reality she was just trying to show him how much she loved him.
She has left behind her legacy, a beautiful grey gelding, Pleasant View Christian. Christian spent a good share of the summer on an Amish farm in northeast Iowa begin broke to drive and ride. As much as we desired to keep Christian forever, we recently sold him, as we had way too many stallions on the farm. We hope the new owners will love and care for him as much as we did. He is a very special horse.
Although we have many pictures of Beauty, it is clear, now, that we didn't take nearly enough. We hope you enjoy these as much as we do.

The Many Human Faces of
Pleasant View Percherons
We have many friends and family who help out around the farm. From grooming horses, to birthing babies, to pitching and hauling fertilizer it takes a lot of willing hands and strong backs. We are thankful for all of our helpers!
