About Us
The MacVey family has been raising Percheron draft horses in Northwest Iowa since 1898. Our goal is to continually improve our breeding program. Lynn has been very successful in his breeding program, producing such memorable horses as Pleasant View King, Pleasant View Mariah, Pleasant View Melissa, Pleasant View Mulcahy, Pleasant View Moby, Pleasant View Melody and numerous other horses that have gone on to fame and fortune.

We understand the importance of genetics in developing and maintaining the Percheron horse breed as a whole. With this in mind, our breeding program is designed to produce horses which have substance and a strong foundation which one would expect to find in a draft horse. We strive to produce intelligent horses that are easy to live with.

We take pride in the consistency of our breeding. One of the greatest indicators of a top breeding program is the consistency of the offspring. Just because a horse brings a big price in the sale barn or wins big in the show ring does not mean that horse will be able to produce consistency in their offspring. Strong genetics tend to produce offspring with similar characteristics on a consistent basis.

Although we love spending time with our horses, we both have day jobs in order to keep the herd well fed. Lynn is an agriculture education teacher and FFA advisor at Algona High School in Algona, Iowa. Janine is a rate analyst with Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company in Algona, Iowa. In addition to our equine ladies and babies we have four grown children, numerous farm cats and a borrowed bloodhound by the name of Mouse.

Lynn is a lifetime member of the Percheron Horse Association of America and is currently serving on the board of directors. Lynn understands that there is more reasons for owning a Percheron horse than to be able to parade it in the show ring. The reality is that most Percherons will never see the show ring. They may aspire to greater heights as companion animals for pleasure riding or driving. Some will be used in farming or logging operations. Others will be used for pulling competition. Many, like our horses, will make great lawn ornaments and pleasing distractions from the daily grind.

Percherons come in many different sizes and shapes, as do their owners. Come visit Pleasant View Percherons to see which one of our horses best fits you!
