Text Box: The MacVey family has been raising Percheron draft horses in Northwest Iowa since 1898. Our goal is to continually improve our breeding program. Lynn has been very successful in his breeding program producing such memorable horses as Pleasant View King, Pleasant View Mariah, Pleasant View Melissa, Pleasant View Mulcahy, Pleasant View Moby, Pleasant View Melody and numerous other horses that have gone on to fame and fortune. Our current herd is composed of descendents of top bloodlines including Highview Dragano, Blackhome Duke, South Valley Did-It, Donamerr's Dexter, and M.G.'s Prince.
We understand the importance of genetics in developing and maintaining the Percheron horse breed as a whole. With this in mind, we are constantly looking for crosses which will allow us to provide an alternative to those horses that the masses are flocking to. We will not settle for just another horse. Our goal is to look at each individual mare and breed her to a stallion which will allow her offspring to improve upon her traits. This is not a one stallion fits all world.
Lynn MacVey is an agriculture educator at Algona High School in Algona, Iowa. In addition to his school activities, Lynn is on the Board of Directors of the Percheron Horse Association of America and he is the NW Iowa District Representative for the Iowa Draft Horse and Mule Association. He is presently experiencing his life long dream of owning his own draft horse farm with the horse barn of his dreams.
Janine MacVey was raised on a central Iowa farm, but is new to the draft horse world. She was formally trained as a registered nurse, but gave this up many years ago when raising her 4 children. Today she applies her nursing knowledge to the horse world. While Lynn enjoys studying blood lines and figuring out the breeding schedule, Janine looks forward to foaling season and assisting the mares with the miracle of birth.
We have only begun to experience the "empty nest" syndrome, as our youngest daughter, Hannah, recently entered the food service assistant program at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA. She works at McDonalds in Cedar Rapids in her "spare" time. Our eldest son, Zachary, lives with his wife and 2 children in Marshalltown, IA. He works for Ritchie Mfg in Conrad, IA making livestock waterers. Thaddeus, our number two son, lives on a farm near Vinton, IA. He works on a dairy farm owned by Saint Jim  & Rita Fix. Our third son, James, is a senior at Iowa State University in Ames, IA where he is studying meteorology. James works part time at Kum & Go while attending classes full time at ISU.
With the kids 2 to 4 hours from us we are fortunate to have Lynn's "kids" to call on when needed. His former and current FFA students have been great to help out, even at a moment's notice.
For a truly Pleasant View, visit us at our farm near Algona, Iowa.
